If you thought winter in Breckenridge was fun, just wait until you experience everything that summer in Colorado has to offer! To make the most of your time in the Rockies and the incredible weather, we have created a 2024 Summer Guide to Breck just for you! Whether you are coming to the mountains for family fun, your annual girls’ trip, a romantic getaway, or an epic reunion, we can help you plan the perfect stay.

Travel Tips:

What to Pack:

Layering: Prepare for fluctuating temperatures in the mountains. Days are warm (high 60s to 70s) with low humidity, while mornings and evenings are chilly (low 50s). Be sure to include a jacket, warm socks, and a beanie in your suitcase.
Sun Protection: Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat due to the higher UV levels at 9,600 feet altitude.
Combat Dryness: Bring lip balm and lotion to keep your skin hydrated in the dry air.
Hydration: At high altitudes, increasing your hydration is essential. Bring a reusable water bottle and consider supplements like Liquid IV.
Footwear: Pack proper footwear such as hiking boots and waterproof shoes for mountain adventures.
Daypack: Bring a small backpack to keep your essentials easily accessible during your trip.

Transportation:

Once you’ve booked your flights, it’s time to plan your transportation to the mountains. At Denver International Airport, you will have the option to rent a car, Uber/Lyft to your destination, or book a shuttle to and from Breckenridge. Explore our Airport Transportation and Shuttle blog post to discover various transportation options and exclusive deals from our partners.

A couple of things to remember before you drive up to the mountains:

  • If you book a rental car, look for a 4WD/AWD option.
  • If you book a shuttle, give yourself enough time to get your bags and any equipment you checked. Your shuttle company or driver should reach out to you via email or phone to confirm your booking and which platform you should be standing on to be picked up.
  • If you’re with family or friends, Uber/Lyft might be an affordable option.
  • If you’re planning on doing some of your own exploring, a rental car is a great option, especially in summertime so you can get to various hiking trails, biking trails, and the lake conveniently.
  • Breckenridge does offer a bus shuttle that takes you from one end of town to the other or check out rentals within walking distance to downtown.

There is nothing better than taking in the mountain scenery on a patio with a cold beverage in your hand. Here are some of our favorite outdoor dining spots and breweries and why we love them:

Outdoor Adventures:

If you ask a local what their favorite season in Breckenridge is, you’ll be surprised to hear summer as a popular answer. Why? There are endless activities to fit in on the longest days of the year. We have outlined the summer activity bucket list to keep your adventurous group entertained during the whole trip.

Hiking:

Summit County has 100 trailheads, 38 miles of paved Recreational Pathways, approximately 100 miles of natural trails, and 50 miles of dirt roads. This means there are A LOT of choices for stunning hikes. There are countless trail options that are perfect for the whole family (like the Sawmill Trail) but still plenty of opportunities for those seeking adrenaline (like summiting a 14’er). June-August is wildflower season which means your alpine hikes will be even more memorable and photo-worthy. Check out some of the best hikes on AllTrails.

Explore Lake Dillon:

Whether you rent a kayak, pontoon boat, or stand-up paddleboard, the Frisco Bay Marina is one of our favorite spots to be in the summer. The marina features a sandy beach, perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and large gatherings. The Island Bar and Grill on the water offers tropical refreshments and tasty snacks. Paddle to the different islands in Lake Dillon, while you pass majestic sailboats and enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree views of the peaks. Check out these Frisco rentals to secure your spot near the lake.

Golf:

Summit County has some of the most stunning golf courses in the world. At VisitBreck we have a wonderful selection of rentals right along the Breckenridge golf course with awesome views and easy access.

Our favorite courses:

Pickleball:

Grab your paddle and get ready to hit the outdoor Pickleball courts at Carter Park. These are the most scenic courts you’ll find, with one of the grandest views of Breckenridge ski resort in all of town. Check out their schedule for more information.

Biking:

There is an incredible amount of mountain biking trails in and around Breckenridge, but the Breck Bike Trails offer a wide variety of riding terrain to test your skills and endurance. The trails are interconnected, so you can pick a custom circuit tailored to your riding skills.

If you are looking for a smoother ride that still gives you amazing views, we recommend the Recreation Path where you can bike from Breckenridge to Frisco, around the entirety of Lake Dillon (18 miles and our top recommendation), or from Vail Pass downhill all the way back to Breckenridge. There are plenty of rental companies to choose from, and e-bike options! Most rental companies even offer a one-way shuttle to the top of Vail pass.

Fly Fishing:

Grab your fishing license (online or at a local angler) and prepare to get hooked on fly fishing. We recommend hiring a guide, whether you are a beginner or an expert, to teach you the best techniques for catching local species and to show you the top fishing spots (of which there are many). One of our favorite outfitters is Mountain Angler; they will treat you like a local and help you fish like one too!

Outdoor Yoga:

Whether you are an experienced yogi or a beginner, you can find your perfect flow while breathing in Colorado's fresh mountain air. Meta Yoga offers yoga on the lawn right off Mainstreet and SUP (stand up paddleboard) yoga for those who like to combine their summer activities and try something new! Dillon Amphitheater offers “Yoga at the Amp” outdoors overlooking the lake for you and your group to soak in the views while stretching those muscles after an adventurous day.

Horseback Riding:

Explore the Ten Mile Range on horseback at the Breckenridge Stables. They offer horseback riding options for the entire family. With over 100 horses to choose from, they are sure to have one suited to your skill level.

White Water Rafting:

The Breckenridge area has some of the best whitewater rafting in the country with great options for both families and more experienced rafters. Whether it’s a scenic trip down Browns Canyon or a more thrilling whitewater pursuit down The Numbers, there is something for everyone!
